In the second round of presidential elections held in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), according to unofficial results, Ersin Tatar, the candidate of the National Unity Party (UBP), was elected president with 51.74 percent of the votes.

Supreme Election Council (YSK) Chairman Narin Ferdi Sefik announced that in the second round of the presidential election held today in TRNC, Tatar, the prime minister and the candidate of UBP, won the election race.
Explaining that Tatar received 51.74 percent of the votes and won the election, Şefik noted that the independent presidential candidate Akıncı received 48.26 percent of the vote.
Sefik noted that the final results will be announced tonight.
Thus, the Ersin Tatar period, which will last for 5 years as the president of the TRNC, started.
The voting process, which started at 08.00 in the morning in the TRNC, ended at 18.00.
The Turkish Cypriot people went to the ballot box to elect their president for the 10th time since 1974.
Who is Ersin Tatar?
Tatar was born in 1960 in Nicosia. Tatar completed his high school education in England and graduated from Cambridge University Faculty of Economics in 1982.
Tatar, who worked at the head office of Price Waterhouse in England between 1982-1986, received the title of Chartered Accountant (financial advisor).
Ersin Tatar worked as finance manager at PollyPeck Company in England between 1986-1991 and at FMC-Nurol Savunma Sanayi AŞ in Ankara between 1991-1992.
Tatar, who worked as the General Coordinator of Show TV in Istanbul between 1992-2001, founded “Kanal T”, the first private television channel of the TRNC in 1996.
Ersin Tatar returned to TRNC in 2003 and entered politics from the UBP. He was elected as a Nicosia MP from the UBP in the early general elections of 19 April 2009.
Tatar, who was appointed as the Minister of Finance in the Derviş Eroğlu government established on May 4, 2009, continued this duty in the Irsen Küçük government established on May 27, 2010.
Ersin Tatar, who was re-elected as Nicosia MP from the UBP in the early general elections of 28 July 2013 in TRNC, served as the Chairman of the Economy, Finance, Budget and Planning Committee in the 8th term.
Tatar was re-elected as the UBP Deputy of Nicosia in the early general elections of January 7, 2018. Ersin Tatar, who made the second round with Hüseyin Özgürgün at the UBP Congress on 27-28 October 2018, was elected chairman with the announcement that Özgürgün had withdrawn from the race.
Ersin Tatar was the prime minister in the coalition government of the UBP-People’s Party (HP), which was established in May last year.
