The exhibition draws a parallel between the works of the plastic artist Hélio Oiticica and the filmmaker Neville d’Almeida, friends and partners in the construction of the iconic sensory installations called quasi-cinemas – experience blocks in Cosmococas.

The installation Cosmococa 3 (1973-74), inspired by Marilyn Monroe and unpublished in Brazil, will be shown, and the films Mangue Bangue (1971) and Jardim de Guerra (1970), made available to the public for the first time in full, since this version was censored during the Military Dictatorship period in Brazil.

Cosmocinema celebrates the 50th anniversary of the meeting between artist Hélio Oiticica and filmmaker Neville d’Almeida, which took place in New York during the 1970s, when they carried out joint works.

“Looking for Oiticica’s immersive works, especially Cosmococa made in partnership with Neville, in this pandemic and political turmoil, is almost imperative. The work was done 50 years ago, but it remains extremely contemporary and necessary, especially for a moment of social isolation, the work being a great representation of contact and physical partnership ”, says Gabriela Davies, curator of Galeria Aymoré.

To adapt to the restrictions imposed by the pandemic and promote greater immersion in the facilities, the visitation must be previously scheduled at Aymoré Gallery website and restricted to six people every hour.

Villa Aymoré is located at Ladeira da Glória, 26. It is open from Tuesday to Saturday, from 1 pm to 6 pm. Admission is free.
