The Buenos Aires Minister of Health, Daniel Gollan, predicted this Thursday that Argentina “will not have a second winter with coronavirus” and is “close to the solution” of the pandemic.

“Europe had nothing more than a bit of winter and then came spring and summer. This is a respiratory virus that infects much more in winter because everyone is locked up and the virus circulates more easily there. We are already passing it“, he explained, with a view to the arrival of the vaccine.

In dialogue with Futurock, the provincial official explained that the AMBA takes “five weeks of a decrease” in the number of cases.

From 5,300 average cases per week we dropped to 3,200. It is still an important amount, but the trend of the four most important and practical indicators that we have, which are daily cases, the occupation of beds with covid patients, calls to 148 and the number of deaths; it is consistently down, “he added.

In that sense, Gollan revealed that the number of hospitalized patients with coronavirus fell from 1,254 during the peak to 950, which “generated a certain distention in health personnel.”

Conversely, the situation worsened in the interior of the province: “A month ago it represented 5 percent of the cases in the Province and now it is 33 percent. But there was a strong expansion of beds and if we have cases of cities with system tension, we are solving it regionally.”

Asked about the different strategies between the Province and the City, which shows a greater openness of activities, the minister stated that the Conurbano “was always 18 or 20 days behind the Capital in the number of cases.”

“In that game the Capital begins the descent first. For those three weeks apart they open earlier. But we are not separate areas. We are much more cautious, which is sometimes interpreted as a confrontation, but conceptually we agree on the same. Then there are needs, political and economic questions … “, he analyzed.

Finally, when asked about the statements about the quarantine of the former President Mauricio Macri -he said “it was useless” – Gollan accused him of “be playing cheap politicking”.

“This is dangerous. I remember Macri arriving in France and saying that freedom was breathed there. Well, now in France there is a curfew. The truth is that it does not do well … The Minister of Health of the City (Fernán Quirós) answered it very well and said it clearly: Without early quarantine, this would have been a health catastrophe. One hundred percent agreement. ”

As reported on Thursday by the provincial Ministry of Health, positive cases of coronavirus in Buenos Aires territory amounted to 480,494 after being confirmed 5,175 new infections in the last 24 hours.

2,739 cases were registered for every 100,000 inhabitants, while 398,483 people have already recovered and been discharged. further 15,202 people have died since the start of the pandemic, last March.

Of the total infected, 50.7% are men, 48.9% women, and there are 0.4% “without data.” Of all the cases, 72.2% correspond to community infections, 13.4% were due to close contact with confirmed cases; 8.3% are investigating the cause; 5.2% are health workers and 0.9% are imported cases, the official report indicated.

The percentage of intensive care beds for adults occupied in the Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires (AMBA) is 63,5%.
