I have just done some work in my kitchen, and no longer having a hob, I had to use great means: cook rice in microwave… not without some hesitation. I was so pleasantly surprised by the result that it is from my ONLY cooking method for rice!
This method is easy, quick, and unattended. The rice keeps warm longer, the grains are well cooked and do not stick to each other. For me it is the same cooking quality as rice cooked in a rice cooker. You absolutely must test!
How to cook rice in the microwave?
Use a container suitable for the microwave. If this container does not have a lid, provide special cooking food film.
Prepare the same amount of rice as water. For example for 4 people: 2 glasses of rice, 2 glasses of water.
Rinse the rice in order to remove the starch (several rinses are often necessary). Place the rice and water in the microwave-safe container. Close tightly. This step is essential, because the water in the dish will turn into steam to cook the rice, resulting in a result similar to the rice cooker.
Then place the dish in the microwave and heat on full power for 9-10 minutes. Then remove the dish from the microwave with a glove and leave covered until use. Watch out for hot steam when opening!
If necessary fluff with a fork, add a knob of butter, enjoy!

What if you don’t have an airtight container or cooking film?
Do not panic ! Indeed, if the fact of closing the container hermetically guarantees a steam cooking rice, on the other hand, in cooking without a lid, the water evaporates. In this case place double the amount of water compared to the rice. Cooking will be done simply in boiling water, and your rice will be just as delicious.
Try to put a lid on your dish, such as a plate for example: this will limit evaporation.
Which rice to use for cooking in the microwave?
You can cook most commercially available rice in the microwave: Basmati rice, Thai rice, long grain rice … it works every time.
Only downside: whole rice. The thickness of the bran envelope that surrounds the grain makes cooking longer and more delicate. Ideally, follow the cooking method indicated on the package. Otherwise, proceed as follows:
Rinse the rice until the water is no longer cloudy. Then count 1 dose of rice for 2 doses of water. Place in a microwave-safe dish and seal tightly. Cook for 35 minutes at full power.
In the same way as before with classic rice; if you don’t have a lid, use double the water (4 cups of water to 1 cup of rice).
