Leaders in the dispute for the city hall of Rio, current mayor Marcelo Crivella (Republicans) and former mayor Eduardo Paes (DEM) were the main targets of attacks during the debate held by Band on the night of that Thursday (1º.set.2020).
Due to the covid-19 pandemic, there was no audience in the studio.
Participated in the debate: Benedita da Silva (PT), Clarissa Garotinho (Pros), Eduardo Bandeira de Mello (Rede), Eduardo Paes (DEM), Fred Luz (Novo), Glória Heloíza (PSC), Luiz Lima (PSL), Marcelo Crivella, Martha Rocha (PDT), Paulo Messina (MDB) and Renata Souza (Psol).
Crivella and Paes had no direct confrontations, but exchanged criticisms during clashes with other candidates. According to the current mayor, the demist would have handed over the city “financially broken” e “full of debts“.
Paes, on the other hand, criticized the management of Crivella in Health. Defending himself from criticism, he said that during his tenure things were not perfect. “We know that everything was not perfect, but in our management things were much better”, said.
During the debate, Crivella also attacked candidate Renata Souza. “If Psol wins the election, our children will have something they had at home, sexual orientation. There will be gay kits at school and they will induce the release of drugs ”, he declared.
One of the heated moments of the debate was Martha Rocha’s criticism of Paes. “That debauched and disrespectful way of you, trickster of being, the carioca can’t take it anymore”, said.
Petista Benedita da Silva told Crivella that he could not “Confuse the pulpit with a political platform”.
There was also a clash between Fred Luz and Clarissa Garotinho. “Fred, you come with this new party bark, but in fact you are a sexist who likes to belittle women’s history”, said Clarissa.
The Novo candidate told the Pros candidate that “Rio de Janeiro needs quality managers, not bullshit”.
Company survey Paraná Searches shows that former Mayor Eduardo Paes (DEM) leads the race to the city hall of Rio de Janeiro with 25.1% of voting intentions. The search (whole – 490 KB) was released on September 25, 2020.
In 2nd, with almost 12 percentage points of difference, is the current mayor, Marcelo Crivella (Republicans), with 13.6% of the intentions.
Next come Marta Rocha (PDT), with 11.8% of voting intentions, and federal deputy Benedita da Silva (PT), with 7.3%.
There is a technical tie between federal deputy Bandeira de Mello (Rede), Clarissa Garotinho (PL), Luiz Lima (PSL), Cyro Garcia (PSTU) and Cristiane Brasil (PTB).
910 people were interviewed, from September 20 to 24, through telephone calls, in the city of Rio de Janeiro. The margin of error is 3.5 percentage points. The 95% confidence level. The survey is registered with the TSE (Superior Electoral Court) under the number RJ-08624/2020.
