İdris Aydın, the headman of the Gököz village of Bursa, turned the village coffee into a classroom with internet connection for children who could not go to school due to the epidemic and had technological deficiencies. He gives the mukhtar’s computer and his own mobile phone to the students who do not have a computer to use during the lessons.
Gököz Village has a population of 100. This is also the village where Müzeyyen Senar was born and raised. Muhtar İdris Aydın turned the village coffee into a classroom for students who do not have internet access at home, with the transition to distance education due to the epidemic. Children take the computer, tablet or their parents’ phones and attend the lessons held over the internet from the coffee house. Students access the internet with the common password they get from the mukhtar. All that remains is to listen to the lesson and concentrate. In fact, the situation has turned into such a situation that even the children of holidaymaker families who come to Gököz Village from the surrounding provinces to set up camps have used the village coffee to attend the classes. Muhtar Aydın “When our internet is free; Children of caravaners, campers or daily visitors who came to our village were also our students, ”he says.

How did the idea of turning coffee into the classroom come up?
Students who do not have internet at home have asked us to access their classes. I also thought that we could open it as a classroom since our coffee had internet access.
How many students can attend the class at the same time in the coffeehouse?
Until now, we had 10 students have classes in the same class. Each student’s lesson time is different … Since the coffeehouse is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, you can also benefit from repeat lessons. I definitely find other alternatives in crowded demands. Very soon, our internet service will be provided in picnic areas.
Mask and social distance are mandatory
How do children without computers attend classes?
We have no computer at all. Each student comes with a tablet or phone. I allow the students who do not have the means to use the mukhtar’s computer or give my own mobile phone. Even if you need a printout about your lessons, you can use our machine at the mukhtar’s office free of charge
they can use.
What do you pay attention to during the lesson in the coffeehouse, is there anybody other than the students?
The most important point we pay attention to is social distance. They attend classes by following this rule and of course there is a mask requirement. We do not allow activities that will distract children.
Do students obey the mask rule?
Since the beginning of the pandemic, the hygiene, mask, and distance rules must have been explained very well to our students who come from the surrounding villages, and I have never encountered any violations of the rules. Since distant primary and secondary school students come under the supervision of their parents, they also follow these rules.
Families were very happy
How do you disinfect the coffee shop?
In this regard, we receive support from the environmental health unit of the metropolitan municipality. On the same issue, Keles Municipality has support for mask-disinfectant supply. We prefer late night hours for disinfection.
What do parents think about this application?
Students were demanding internet connection from their families at home. They were happy when this was no problem after we turned the village coffee into the classroom. There are no more top-up responsibilities. Children leave the house as if they were going to school. So far, we have not received any negative feedback from any parents.
Will such an application start in the surrounding villages after you?
Our District Governor of Keles, Kübra Teymur, gathered all our headmen related to the EBA agenda and showed our implementation as an exemplary project. He instructed that “whatever is necessary to be implemented in every neighborhood”. Implementation started in Pınarcık and Gelemiç neighborhoods. I know that works are continuing in other neighborhoods.
Customers did not react when it was a useful business
“Since the population of our village is 100 people, coffee was not very crowded anyway. Customers who arrived did not react either. Probably the reason is that our work is beneficial. “
Thanks to the mukhtar’s initiative, students can follow their classes in the village coffee house.
