Tehran. Iran surpassed 30,000 deaths from coronavirus on Saturday, the Health Minister announced, eight months after the disease made its appearance in the country.
“We have unfortunately lost 253 of our dear compatriots due to covid-19 in the last 24 hours,” said Health Ministry spokeswoman Sima Sadat Lari.
Thus, the total death toll stands at 30,123 and the country continues to be the most affected in the Middle East by the pandemic.
According to Lari, the Islamic Republic has counted 4,103 new cases of infection in one day and already has more than 526,000 confirmed infections.
The authorities have isolated for three days, until Sunday night, the five largest cities in the country, Tehran among them, to prevent displacements during the weekend.
