Faced with the surge in Covid-19 contaminations in Europe, new restrictions come into force on Saturday in Germany – in Berlin – and in Poland, while in Latin America, Brazil is preparing to exceed the bar of 150,000 deaths.
In Europe, which has more than 6.2 million cases of Covid-19 and nearly 240,000 deaths, the situation continues to worsen.
In Germany, where more than 4,000 new cases are officially identified every day – a record figure since the beginning of April – Chancellor Angela Merkel has warned: if the number of contaminations does not stabilize within ten days, the country will take new restrictive measures.
But from Saturday in Berlin, most shops as well as all restaurants and bars will have to close from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m., at least until October 31.
Faced with the worrying development of contaminations, several large German cities, in particular Berlin and the financial center Frankfurt, have thus imposed a curfew for the gastronomy sector, as well as a restriction of social contacts.
In neighboring Poland, also in the grip of a record rise in the number of infections, wearing masks in public spaces will be compulsory from Saturday across the country.
“The second wave has arrived here and we must face it firmly,” Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said Thursday, explaining that the entire country of 38 million people would now be considered a “yellow zone” .
Some 38 municipalities will also be considered from Saturday as red zones, where stricter restrictions apply to public and family gatherings.
Poland recorded 4,280 contaminations and 76 deaths on Thursday, bringing the overall figures for this country to 111,599 and 2,867 respectively.
– Partial closure in Madrid –
The situation is also worsening in France: 20,339 new cases in 24 hours, a new record, according to official figures on Friday evening. The government’s scientific council has not ruled out the possibility of local reconfigurations “if necessary”.
Consequence: four cities in the East and the North (Lyon, Grenoble, Saint-Etienne and Lille) will spend Saturday in the maximum alert zone, synonymous with new restrictions, as is already the case in Paris and Aix-Marseille ( South).
The Spanish government for its part declared on Friday a state of health emergency in the Madrid region in an attempt to curb the increase in the number of cases (+10,000 daily on average in recent days), restoring a partial closure of the capital canceled the day before by justice. The inhabitants of Madrid and its surroundings can no longer leave their city for reasons of first necessity since October 2.

– Stimulus plans –
A crucial question remained unanswered on Friday, however: Donald Trump, who “thinks” is no longer contagious, has he tested negative?
His country remains the most affected in the world, both in terms of the number of deaths (213,570) and contamination (more than 7.6 million), which continue to accelerate.
Russia also broke a record for new daily cases on Friday (+12,126). Russian authorities are currently saying they are not planning major containment measures.
