NAPLES, Italy (Reuters) – Napoli scored four goals in a 20-minute period in the first half by defeating Atalanta 4-1 in the Italian league on Saturday, giving visitors a taste of their own poison.
Atalanta, last season’s top scorer with 98 goals, scored 13 goals in their first three matches, but had no response to Napoli’s attacks in an extraordinary first half.
Mexican striker Hirving Lozano, passed over by coach Gennaro Gattuso last season, paved the way for Napoli with two goals in four minutes.
The player known as “Chucky” took a cross from Giovanni Di Lorenzo on 23 minutes and made the second after Dries Mertens’ play.
Matteo Politano scored the third in the 30th minute and Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen took advantage of a defensive save to score the fourth before the break.
