(ANSAmed) – ZAGREB, OCT 16 – The series of negative records on the coronavirus front continues in Croatia, and today for the first time the threshold of one thousand daily infections has been exceeded.

According to the daily bulletin of the Civil Protection Crisis Unit, 1,131 new infections have been recorded since yesterday. At the most is also the number of patients with active infection, to date 4,233. Of these, 505 are in hospital treatment and 24 are connected to a ventilator for artificial respiration. One person has died since yesterday, bringing the total deaths to 345. Since the beginning of the epidemic in Croatia just under 24,000 cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed, out of 385,000 swabs carried out and a population of four million.

The most serious situation is in the capital Zagreb where 231 new infections have been registered since yesterday, while the only region still in the green zone is Istria where there are just 21 infected patients, two more than yesterday.

Hospitals have been put on high alert and, according to the press, if this trend of growth of new infections continues, the healthcare system could be seriously compromised in the next two weeks. (ANSAmed).
