Fabio Quartararo said he had taken caution on Friday practice to avoid unnecessary mistakes. With mixed conditions at Le Mans, the Frenchman took a more relaxed stance so as not to hinder the chances of winning the MotoGP title.
The first of the MotoGP French GP took place in a very unfavorable climate. During the morning, rain was present and the asphalt was completely wet. In the afternoon, it started to dry, but it was still damp.
Therefore, the leader of the classification said he did not give the maximum not to run the risk of taking a fall and putting himself out of the championship fight. The pilot ended the day with 18th place on the timesheet, remaining in the positions that guarantee a direct place to Q2.
“I was very careful under these conditions because it is not two laps in the second practice that will make a big difference over the weekend. Vyou saw the accident [Luca] Marini na curve 5 [no TL2 da Moto2] and here with Maverick [Viñales] there was a big difference in terms of lap time [entre nós]”, said.

“So, under these conditions, when it’s complicated and we know that the next day is going to be better, I prefer to remain calm, not make stupid mistakes. That’s what I did, I was really calm and I think that was very important. In conditions like this you can lose the championship very easily ”, completed the 24 year old driver.
This week, the queen class conducted a collective test to recognize the layout of Portimão. The Yamaha SRT competitor preferred to stay out of the activity to once again avoid any risk. After saying that his focus was not the cup, but getting points, the posture showed a different approach. “I wouldn’t say I’m not thinking about the championship,” he said.
“I don’t think I need to do things that could take away the title. Let’s say that we need to be clear about our potential, we have it to win the championship, so at the moment, I am facing one race at a time, ”continued the Nice driver.
“But it is true that under these conditions, I prefer not to take many risks that are not worth it, because, in the end, I don’t have to go to the limit all the time. I know when I need to think it was the right way to fly. It was a good time for me, as it was difficult. I always want to be quick and I want to leave soon, but it was a day to be calmer ”, he concluded.
Currently, Quartararo appears in the first position of the classification with eight points of advantage for Joan Mir, who occupies the second position.
