Victory for the Italian Danilo Petrucci (Ducati) ahead of … Alex Marquez (Honda), who was driving his MotoGP for the first time in the rain.
The rain falling a few minutes before the start, the same delayed start to allow the teams to fit the appropriate tires: the GP de France MotoGP brought its share of surprises.
Three Ducatis in the lead for a long time – before Jack Miller knew a technical problem, then Andrea Dovizioso had to fight with a destroyed rear tire -, only that of Danilo Petrucci remained, the one who learned that he would no longer ride for the Italian brand even before the start of the season.
Second? Alex Marquez, the “rookie”, the little brother, who had never driven his RC213V in the rain before and who came back from 18th place on the grid per second at the end of the race.
Third? Pol Espargaró (KTM), who also did a great job.
The designated favorites? Frenchman Fabio Quartararo, whose experience in the rain was also minimal, had the intelligence to secure important points, to strengthen his position at the top of the championship.
Valentino Rossi fell at the first chicane, Morbidelli a little further, while Alex Rins (Suzuki), who was then on the provisional podium, was also a victim of the slippery track. Petrucci is the seventh different winner of the season in MotoGP, out of nine races.
Next GP: Sunday, in Aragon with, perhaps, the return of Marc Marquez.
