In the forest, you can meet terrifying creatures. Like this scarlet beast, which confused British roads in the 2000s. The fruit of the work of a farmer in the west of the country named Andy Burton, this machine tore the ears of rally enthusiasts posted on the edge of muddy paths, gleaning in passing a nice prize list.

According to Ned Boase, author for the UK site Drivetribe, this car had three lives, with different V6s fixed in the rear center position behind the crew. In 1997, Andy Burton bought a 306, reinforced the hull with a tubular structure, then added an engine. At first, it was the 3-liter atmo inherited from the MG Metro 6R4, which raced in Group B in the 1980s. Then the pilot-builder, tired of reliability concerns, opted for another engine, named KF V6. The 6-cylinder had been developed by Cosworth for DTM’s Opel Calibra in the midst of nineties. The 2.5-liter aluminum block saw its power increased to 420 horsepower and its revs peak at 11,000 rpm. Hence the high-pitched sound and the name of this 306 … Finally, Andy Burton developed a deflated version of this same engine, again to avoid too many breakages …

Winner of the BTRDA championships (British amateur rally) in 2003 and 2011, Andy Burton was forced to send his 306 to retirement at the end of this last season. The MSA – national federation of motorsport – had indeed withdrawn its homologation to the machine.
