English biographer Robert Lacey releases a book on the royal family. He talks about a little-known yet important episode: the breakup of Kate and William in 2007.
Kate and William might not have been the idyllic princely couple we know. No George, Charlotte and Louis. In 2007, the couple had big problems and even separated for 10 weeks.
Royal biographer Robert Lacey looks back on this period in his new book. Prince William and Kate Middleton met at Saint Andrew’s University in 2001. But after several years of relationship, they separated in 2007.
First Kate Middleton refused to attend Sandrigham’s Christmas dinner because of her status as a simple “girlfriend”. This was the first big strain according to Robert Lacey.
Then things got out of hand: “William was seen in London dancing madly in several nightclubs with several young women.“At the time, these escapades made the front pages of the English tabloids and the young girls in question recounted their stories with the crown prince.
On April 11 of this year, Kate walked out of a work date at Jigsaw, the fashion boutique she had recently started working at, to take a call from William in a conference room that was at the safe from prying ears. She closed the door for over an hour. When she came out, she was single.
Kate still continued to participate in some events keeping the attention of the public, but especially William. The prince therefore returned to her. A friend of the prince reveals to the biographer: “William has not ceased to regret Kate since their separation. He keeps saying that she is an amazing girl and that she is the best thing that has ever happened to her.”
In 2010, during a trip to Kenya, the prince proposed to Kate in marriage with the famous engagement ring of his mother, after having had the agreement of prince Harry.
