Before entering the octagon against Jun Yong Park, John Phillips was seen behind the scenes receiving tips from Khamzat Chimaev, a UFC sensation currently for his brutal knockouts in three fights for the organization so far.

The unusual thing is that Chimaev had Phillips as his first “victim” in the UFC, in July this year.

In the octagon, however, it was a real retreat for the South Korean, who took the rival to the ground in the three rounds and applied no less than 260 strokes to the opponent.

Park’s 258 strikes on the ground represent a record in UFC history for a three-round fight. The previous mark was 251 and belonged to Matthew Riddle in 2009.

The record for most hits in a fight is Royce Gracie (355), at UFC 5, against Ken Shamrock. Park is now sixth in this ranking.
