Tested positive for the coronavirus, Ruben Bemelmans will not participate in the European Open (ATP 219), the ATP tournament in Antwerp which begins on Sunday. Dick Norman, the tournament director, confirmed this on Saturday.
Bemelmans, 32, had secured a wildcard for qualifying from the tournament organization. Qualifying is due to start this Sunday.
This is the second package for a positive coronavirus test that organizers have to deal with. Earlier in the week, Fabio Fognini (ATP 16) had tested positive during the ATP tournament in Sardinia. Matteo Berrettini (ATP 9) and Andrey Rublev (ATP 10) had also withdrawn.
A question mark remains around the participation of David Goffin (ATP 14). The Liégeois has been tested positive for the coronavirus a second time and is awaiting the result of the test passed Thursday evening.
