Which manufacturers are selling cars in France least affected by the health crisis? The answer in numbers.

[Mis à jour le 15/10/2020 à 16h41] The twinkling light at the end of the tunnel is not visible to everyone. The automotive sector, severely affected by the confinement period from March 17 to May 11, issues signs of recovery, but this does not apply equally to all manufacturers. The current state of health of the latter actually depends on several factors, in particular the volume of sales recorded before the coronavirus pandemic and their ability to capitalize on the various government aids in force since the beginning of June. These aim in particular to support the acquisition of hybrid vehicles rechargeable and electric, under conditions of tariff level and autonomy.

Over the whole of the first nine months of the year, no brand manages to post a positive balance sheet compared to the same period of 2019. Nevertheless, Porsche is not far from it, with a drop in sales of private vehicles in France contained at -5.5% since January, according to the latest figures published by the Committee of French Automobile Manufacturers (CCFA). The Zuffenhausen firm could even have returned to the green, without the decline recorded in September (-26.5%). To a lesser degree, since the start of the year, we have noticed the resilience on the French market of Hyundai (-11.2%), Toyota (-12.9%) and Kia (-15.5%), compared to the French market average (-28.9%).

On the other hand, some manufacturers suffered very marked declines at the end of the third quarter of 2020. Witness of difficulties often prior to the health crisis, this particularly concerns the Smart and Alpine brands. They are respectively credited with a drop in their sales of -87.3% and -84.5% compared to the first nine months of 2019.
