The Minister of the Environment had announced that she continued to believe in a new stadium for the Cercle de Bruges.
Positive following the minister’s announcement, the Circle however underlines that the plans currently offer no legal certainty that a stadium can be built on avenue de Blankenberge, and insists on having the necessary guarantees and authorizations.
For the Circle, Kanaaleiland remains an alternative to the construction of a stadium along the avenue de Blankenberge, an economically interesting option for the Circle and the city. A report by the architectural firm KOBALT suggests studying this option in more depth.
Finally, if the locations of the avenue de Blankenberge or the Kanaaleiland do not allow a short-term solution to be found, the Circle could turn to a review of the initial renovation plans of Jan Breydel dating from 2014. An option which will require to find a total compromise between the two clubs, in terms of the needs and expectations of each.
