Ford is preparing to slightly revamp its Mustang catalog with the withdrawal of the Shelby GT350 of 533 horses. This will be digitally replaced by the new Mustang Mach 1 and its naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8 487 horsepower, a model that the American firm intends to market “globally” according to information relayed by Ford Authority.

For the record, this Mustang Mach 1, which is around 500 horsepower, is offered with a six-speed manual transmission or an optional ten-speed automatic transmission. For the chassis, aerodynamics and cooling part, the Mustang Mach 1 takes many elements of the GT350 overall by adding certain specific attributes, in particular with this specific aerodynamic kit.

Despite Ford’s desire to market this model worldwide, France remains a very specific market, obviously fond of this type of model, but with a tax system that is not really favorable to this type of motorization. If the Mustang Mach 1 arrives well next spring on the Old Continent and in France, it will certainly have the right at the maximum penalty given that its cousin, the Mustang GT and its 450 horsepower V8, is already subject to a penalty of 40,000 euros in 2021. Not to mention that it will amount to 50,000 euros by 2022.

In reality, it is rather the maintenance of the Mustang in the catalog that raises questions in France with such taxes. The Mustang is now billed from 48,800 euros. The addition of a penalty of 40,000 euros to the final invoice should certainly be fatal, especially since Ford has built the reputation of its Mustang thanks to low prices for services and driving pleasure of the first order.
