“Well done Rafa, you deserve it”: Roger Federer, joined by Rafael Nadal in the number of Grand Slam tournaments won on Sunday, congratulated him on social networks, in the wake of the Spaniard’s thirteenth coronation at Roland Garros.
“I have always had the greatest respect for my friend Rafa as a person and as a champion. Being my biggest rival for all these years, I believe we both pushed each other to become better players “, writes Federer, at the head of a collection of twenty Grand Slam trophies, like Nadal now.
“It is a real honor for me to congratulate him on his twentieth Grand Slam victory. It is in particular extraordinary that he has now won Roland-Garros thirteen times, it is one of the greatest achievements in sport”, continues the Swiss, who turned 39 in August and is absent from the circuit until 2021 after a double operation on his right knee in early 2020.
“I hope this number 20 is just a step in our journey together”, adds Federer.
