This afternoon there was another protest against the policies of the Alberto Fernández Government, mainly due to the quarantine of the coronavirus and the respect of the Institutions. And from various organizations in the countryside they supported these demonstrations and held mobilizations in more than 150 places in the interior of the country.
“The most outstanding fact is the massive presence of agricultural producers on the country’s routes,” said the organization of self-organized producers “Campo Más Ciudad”.
In the previous mobilizations, the countryside was present, mainly, in the towns and cities of the interior, without differentiating itself from the other neighbors. This time, tractors accumulated again in accesses and crossings, in adherence to the citizen claim.
According to the statement of the group of self-convened producers, the protest is for excessive tax pressure, the doubling of the exchange rate and the continuous attacks suffered by farmers. The self-convened groups are also joined by agricultural entities.
“In the interior of the country, the call promises to exceed the previous ones, not only in terms of participation in each place, but also the number of localities involved,” explained from the producer organization.
Among the localities where the producers will be concentrated, the producing provinces of the Pampean region stand out. The provinces of Buenos Aires, Santa Fe and Córdoba stand out, but there were also demonstrations in Entre Ríos, Chaco, Corrientes, Formosa, Santiago del Estero, Tierra del Fuego, Tucumán, San Luis, Santa Cruz, San Juan, Salta Misiones, Río Black and Chubut. And abroad there will also be protests, both in Germany, Chile, Switzerland and Uruguay.
Since the Alberto Fernández government began, the relationship with the countryside was not friendly. As soon as he started to govern, he raised withholdings in December on soybeans, corn and wheat and on beef and dairy products. Then, in February, it raised the retentions on soybeans again, in this case, to 33%.
Recently, the Minister of Economy, Martín Guzmán, announced the temporary reduction of withholdings on soybeans and the return of the tariff differential between beans and derivatives, which further irritated spirits so that producers could sell the grains they have saved.
