After a few months of relief after the coronavirus strongly shook the European continent, Covid-19 cases are rebounding again and more and more cities are suffering with the so-called outbreaks. One of them is Barcelona, where the authorities were forced to take different measures to try to contain the spread of the disease. And, as happened in the first months of the pandemic in the Old Continent, sport cannot avoid the effects of the virus either.
In the last hours, Barcelona confirmed that, after carrying out the PCR tests on all the members of the handball team, they found three positive cases and were forced to isolate the entire team. Thus, as the club reports in a statement, athletes must be confined for 10 days to avoid further contagion in the team.
For this reason, in addition, Barsa was forced to request the postponement of the matches corresponding to date 5 of the EHF Champions League against Telekom Veszprém and of the 10th day of the Sacyr ASOBAL League against BM Benidorm. The affected players are in good health and were isolated at home, complying with all health protocols.
This situation is an alarm for the club and for all sports because, given the growth of cases, in Europe they do not rule out that more and more athletes are infected and that they are forced to suspend matches or even activity again.
