The most powerful Golf is coming.
Just a few days ago, Volkswagen unveiled the Golf GTI Clubsport and now all eyes are on an even more insane version. The Golf 8 R will make its first appearance on November 4, according to a short video posted by the manufacturer on social networks.
Oddly enough, and for some reason, the video also shows the T-Roc R. This is a powerful crossover that we had the chance to try. Will these two models be identical in all respects? We will find out shortly.
The Golf 8 R should use the same 2.0 TSI engine found elsewhere on theArteon R and the Tiguan R. We are talking about a power of 330 hp and 420 Nm. This power would be sent to the four wheels only via a DSG box.
Some of you will recall an interesting rumor from the beginning of the year, which spoke of VW’s intention to use Audi’s five-cylinder engine. However, senior Audi officials reportedly said no, forcing VW to stick to its 2.0 TSI engine.
After its official presentation next month, the new Golf 8 R will likely go on sale in the first half of 2021. At the moment, we do not know its prices, or even the amount of its. malus which will be dictated by its CO emissions2 and the new 2021 scale which can go up to 40,000 euros for the most polluting vehicles!
