The Volkswagen Golf GTI offers a new, nastier Clubsport version, 300 horsepower and more assertive in style.

A few months ago, Volkswagen finally lifted the veil on the long-awaited declination GTI, with no less than 245 horsepower and numerous technical improvements. Yes but here it is, it still seems a little too wise to you, both mechanically and stylistically. Don’t panic, we know that the brand is preparing a much more radical version for us, the Golf R, very promising in view of the spyshots having already and published here and there on the net. But it will still take patience, while no revelation date has yet been announced. To keep fans of small bombs waiting, the Wolfsburg firm has nevertheless decided to offer them a small gift named Golf GTI Clubsport. A variant that we already know well, since it was already offered on the previous generation, while it was available in two versions: classic and S, strong of 310 horses but unfortunately never sold in France.

Today, it is therefore a whole new generation of Clubsport that is unveiled, then based on the new Volkswagen Golf 8, formalized at the end of last year. And those who found the standard GTI a bit too demure should be happy, as the styling of this version has been slightly reworked to be a bit more aggressive. Note among other things the new shields and a small spoiler at the rear. New rims also appear and complete the package, as well as the black roof and the decorations on the sidewalls. The interior also wins in exclusivity, with new Clubsport seats with integrated headrests and specific upholstery. Red details bring an additional touch of sportiness, on the seat, the backrest but also the doors. Finally, let us also point out the sports steering wheel delivered as standard, as well as the aluminum pedals.

Beautiful mechanical evolutions

But you can imagine, Volkswagen didn’t just change the style of its Golf GTI Clubsport, since the 2.0-liter TSI sees its power increase to 300 horsepower, allowing the sportswoman to shoot down from 0 to 100 km / h in less than six seconds, for a maximum speed of 250 km / h. But that’s not all, because the car has also been lowered by 15mm compared to the standard version, while new settings have been applied to the chassis, in order to offer better stability in curves. A new system called Vehicule Dynamic Manager also makes its appearance, controlling both the adaptive suspension and the differential, for an optimized behavior. Finally, the new Special mode completes the other configurations, offering specific settings dedicated to driving on the Nürburgring. Not necessarily essential on a daily basis, but it still has the merit of existing.

This Volkswagen Golf GTI Clubsport should not be too late to arrive on the roads, since its marketing should take place by the end of the year. An even more radical S version could perhaps also land in the catalog in 2021, while the label GTI will be celebrating its 45th birthday that year. A nice gift therefore, hoping that the more severe penalty does not come to play the spoilsport.
