The next October 25 will take place on National Plebiscio 2020. About 14 million Chileans are in a position to go to the polling places to express themselves about the drafting of a new Constitution for the country.

It will be a different civic event, as a result of the serious effects of the coronavirus pandemic in different parts of Chile. For this reason, there was an increase in polling places to allow voting to take place under conditions of prevention of new infections and many people found that the site changed where they regularly fulfilled their citizen obligation.

What to do if my polling place has been changed?

A few days ago the polling places were disclosed in the website consultation.servel.cl. In this, people can find their electoral data, if they are authorized to vote, the address of the polling place, the corresponding table and whether or not they were designated board member or members of the scrutineering college.

Regarding the polling place, the law establishes that this does not constitute electoral data. Therefore, it may vary from one election or plebiscite to another. From the past October 3, voters can check their voting point by entering the RUT, on the website servel.cl, places that increased a 26 percent in order to reduce the number of polling stations and thus avoid crowds.

In relation to the latter, finally, there is the process of changing electoral addresses. It is a free procedure that allows citizens to request the Servel the change of their electoral domicile, assigning them another constituency and polling station.

However, the process was available until June 6, 2020. At present, the Electoral Registry by law does not receive new requests, as it is a necessary measure for the prior preparation of the electoral roll for the National Plebiscite 2020.
