First of all, it should be remembered that telecommuting is a very different setting from the office, a place where we exchange with colleagues, where the days are punctuated by specific breaks (lunch breaks, coffees, cigarette breaks etc.).

By working at home, we are freer but also much more tempted to open the cupboards to devour a package of cake. Everything is available, right under your nose. Food can therefore come in compensation for this loss of reference points. The brain, being dependent sugar, will claim it since glucose is comfort food, which acts like a blanket.

Food is also a stress response. Indeed, whether we are aware of it or not, the stress of the current situation or of work will promote snacking. Food therefore acts as an emotional bandage.

How to limit these impulses?

To limit these cravings when working at home, there are several things to check.

  • First of all, be sure to have A balanced diet and well-constructed plates : a full breakfast, fruit, a dish with proteins, starches and vegetables.
  • Also think to drink throughout the day : hunger is sometimes a sign of dehydration.

  • Take the time to eat for your brain to send you a message of satiety : if you eat quickly in front of your computer, you have a good chance of snacking in the afternoon.
