Good news not just for Jessica Alba, but for all fans of the fashionable work boot: The Dr. Martens 1460 Boots are celebrating theirs this year 60th birthday! To honor this milestone in fashion history, the label has come up with something very special: In Cooperation with twelve popular brands and designers there is a reboot of the boat – a limited special edition is available every month.
Dr. Martens 1460 Remastered: 12 months, 12 boots, 12 partners
The birthday year started in January with a collaboration with the Japanese streetwear label A Bathing Ape. The reinterpretation of BAPE put the cult boot back to its beginnings and gave it a trendy military look.
Then on February 20th we went to a designer Raf Simons (52) continue. The Belgian fashion designer is known not only for his own brand, but also for his work as the creative director of Jill Sander and Calvin Klein as well as John Gallianos (59) Successor to Christian Dior. His version of Dr. Martens 1460 with nickel rings in punk style. “The rings refer to the rings we used in our spring 2019 collection,” said Simons. “This collection was very much inspired by the London club scene, especially the time when punk was turning into new wave.”
On March 28th the third revised version of the legendary 1460 came on the market. This time two fashion labels have their fingers in the game: the Japanese brand Beams and the LA label Babylon. The design of the boot is inspired by the ska movement of the 1960s and combines the casual skater style of the American west coast with the futuristic Japanese look. While Beams’ characteristic orange can be found on the heel, shoelace, heel loop and seams, Babylon’s tongue is emblazoned with an inverted peace sign and the slogan “Chaos”.
Further collaborations with, among others, Yohji Yamamoto, Needles, Pleasures and Undercover followed and there is more to come. So by the end of the year there should be something for everyone.
