DUBAI, Nov 11 (Reuters) – Etihad Airways told its cabin employees on Wednesday that it will announce layoffs this week, according to an email seen by Reuters, and an airline source said the company plans to park its Airbus aircraft. A380 “indefinitely” due to a slow recovery in demand.
In internal mail, management told cabin staff that affected workers would be notified of their layoffs within 24 hours, although it did not say how many positions it would cut.
The warning was issued two days after a similar note addressed to the pilots of the Abu Dhabi state airline.
Etihad had already cut jobs and wages on the sharp rise in losses this year.
The company told employees that it plans to transform into a much smaller airline, as demand for air travel has not picked up fast enough, leaving it with a larger workforce than it needs.
