The pianist will no longer play, that’s for sure, but his label continues to publish his concerts, like this magnificent “Budapest” …

Last year, when the album “Munich 2016” came out, everything indicated that pianist Keith Jarrett was living in dark hours. He had not given a concert for nearly two years and the cover of his last recording indicated the sky … Now, when his “Budapest Concert” has also just released, the exceptional musician has confirmed what was expected: victim of two heart attacks that left him paralyzed on his left side, he will probably never perform in public again. When you know your degree of perfectionism, the silence to come unfortunately seems certain. Even if other piano legends have sometimes wanted to pursue their careers after serious health problems – like Oscar Peterson or McCoy Tyner – there is little chance that this will tempt Keith Jarrett. The pianist so careful about his improvised performances, solo since he no longer performed with his trio, does not leave the stage completely thanks to the always very rigorous recordings of his past concerts. That of Budapest is no exception to the rule in 14 pieces which do not content themselves with frequenting the highest peaks of virtuosity, but also cultivate this art of blues which more than ever suits the circumstances.
