The billion-dollar entry of VW truck holding Traton into the US commercial vehicle market is on the home stretch. Traton SE and the US truck and bus manufacturer Navistar have contractually agreed on a merger, as the two companies announced on Saturday evening. With the takeover, VW wants to get a foot in the door in the important US market and strengthen its heavy commercial vehicle business.
From VW’s point of view, the field should not be left to its rival Daimler, which is strong on the US market. With its brands MAN, Scania and Volkswagen Caminhoes e Onibus, VW is particularly strong in Europe and South America.
