The extension of the measures against the corona pandemic announced today, Sunday, by the Austrian federal government also brings an extension of the culture lockdown. While the museums and exhibition houses can reopen together with the retail trade on February 8th and their visitors need FFP2 masks but no test results, there will probably be no theater, opera or cinema performances or concerts in February either.
The ban on events, which has been in effect again since November 3rd, will be extended to at least the end of February. By mid-February at the latest, based on an evaluation of the virological data situation, a decision on re-unlocking should be made. After that, however, attending events will probably only be allowed with the so-called “entry tests”, for which the legal framework conditions were created last week.
Further details are expected at a government press conference at 1 p.m., which will also be attended by Minister of Culture and Vice Chancellor Werner Kogler and State Secretary for Art and Culture Andrea Mayer (both Greens).
