Paes spoke also about the difficulty in organizing the event as it involves public agencies, institutions and associations linked to samba. And he points out that it will be possible to resume Carnival in the city when the population is vaccinated.

“I have never hidden my passion for Carnival and the clear vision I have of the economic importance of this cultural event for our city. However, it seems to me without any sense at this point to imagine that we will be able to hold Carnival in July, ”said Paes.

“This celebration requires a great deal of preparation. Something impossible to do at that moment. Thus, I would like to inform you that we will not have Carnival in the middle of the year in 2021. Certainly in 2022 we will be able (all properly vaccinated) to celebrate life and our culture with all the intensity we deserve ”, he concluded.

The 2021 street carnival was suspended due to the Coronavirus pandemic, but the parades in Sapucaí and official blocks had been moved to July 2021.
