The Supreme Court confirms the Aragonese ownership of the assets of the Sijena Monastery

The plenary session of Supreme court has dismissed the appeals filed by Catalonia against the judgment of the Hearing of Huesca that declared void the sales of 97 pieces of the artistic treasure of the Monasterio de Siena (Huesca) to the Generalitat and the National Museum of Art of Catalonia (MNAC).

In their sentence, the Supreme Court magistrates recognize the “special complexity” of the litigation, but they consider it proven that the assets formed an indivisible part of the artistic treasure of the Alto Aragonese monastery from the date it was declared a national monument, in 1923.

EFEThe judge understands that the provisional execution can only be raised “when there is no possibility that the sentence passed by the Court will be revoked”

This resolution adds to the litigation opened from Aragon to claim the MNAC the return of the valuable wall paintings of the Chapter House of the monastery and the one raised from the Bishopric of Barbastro in demand of the artistic assets of the parishes from the eastern part of Aragon.
