«We are full of hope to further reduce the number of cases. But we do not currently see the option of deciding on further openings, ”said Austria’s Chancellor Sebastian Kurz before the media on Monday. It could be until Easter before the government decides to relax on a large scale. A final decision will be made on March 1st.

The numbers would continue to rise, only the death toll fell slightly. On this issue, Austria is among the best countries in Europe, says Minister of Health Rudolf Anschober. On February 14th, 1,184 new corona cases were added. There are very few cases of the South African virus variant outside of Tyrol. The reproduction factor in the mutations is, however, significantly higher. A million people should be vaccinated by Easter. The current status is around 400,000 vaccinations carried out, so Anschober. Of these, a good 145,000 would have received the second dose.

Since the morning, the government has been debating with experts about the current corona situation in Austria and also advising the governors and the opposition parties about possible further opening steps.
