BAG reports 1222 new coronavirus cases within 24 hours


In Switzerland and Liechtenstein, the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) received 1222 new coronavirus infections within 24 hours on Friday. At the same time, the BAG registered 12 new deaths and 61 hospital admissions.

On Friday the previous week, 1065 new coronavirus infections, eight new deaths and 45 hospital admissions were reported to the BAG.

The positivity rate for the past two weeks was 4.8 percent. During the same period, 163.88 laboratory-confirmed coronavirus infections were reported per 100,000 inhabitants. The reproduction number R, which indicates the average number of people infected by an infected person, was 1.04 around ten days ago.

A total of 1,190,300 vaccine doses had been delivered to the cantons and Liechtenstein by the evening before yesterday. Of these, 884,905 doses were administered. 300,568 people have already been fully vaccinated. Since the beginning of the pandemic, 5,198,760 tests for Sars-CoV-2, the causative agent of the respiratory disease Covid-19, have been carried out in Switzerland and Liechtenstein, according to the FOPH. There were a total of 562,290 laboratory-confirmed cases of infection with the coronavirus.

Cases with mutated viruses

So far, 12,210 cases of the mutated variants of the coronavirus have been discovered in Switzerland. 4070 concerned the British variant (B.1.1.7), 171 the South African (B.1.351) and six the Brazilian (P.1). 7963 cases could not be clearly assigned to any variant.

So far, 23,712 people have had to be treated in hospital for a Covid 19 disease. The number of deaths in connection with Covid 19 disease was 9,331. According to the FOPH, 10,110 people were in isolation and 16,110 people were in quarantine due to contact tracing. In addition, 3743 people who had returned from a risk country were in quarantine.
