Washington, Mar 3 (EFE) .- The United States Capitol Police alerted this Wednesday of the plan of a militia to break into the headquarters of the federal Congress in Washington DC on Thursday.
In a statement, that body indicated that it had obtained intelligence information that “shows a possible plot by an identified militia to break into the Capitol on Thursday, March 4.”
“We have already made significant security updates including the establishment of a physical structure and an increase in staff to ensure the protection of Congress, the public and our police officers,” the note reads.
The Capitol Police added that they take this intelligence information very seriously and collaborate with their partners at the local, state and federal levels to stop any threat against the headquarters of the country’s Congress.
And he stressed that, due to the “sensitive nature” of the data available to him, he cannot provide further details at this time.
According to the CNN television network, information provided by the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security warns that the discussion between extremist groups, such as the far-right organization Three Percenters, has increased about a possible plan to attack the Capitol on March 4.
Followers of the QAnon conspiracy movement believe that former US President Donald Trump will be re-inaugurated on March 4, based on the fact that between 1793 and 1933 the inauguration of the leaders often fell around that date.
Precisely, hundreds of QAnon supporters, members of far-right groups and Trump supporters stormed the Capitol on January 6, when a joint session of the two Houses of Congress was held to ratify the victory of Democrat Joe Biden in the presidential elections of November.
Due to that attack, Trump was subjected to his second impeachment trial in the Senate, of which he was acquitted on February 13, after leaving the White House.
In recent days, Congress has hosted a series of sessions in which security officials have offered their version of the events that occurred on January 6, in which five people died.
Last week, Acting Chief of the Capitol Police, Yogananda Pittman, warned at one of those hearings of a possible plan by extremists to blow up the seat of Congress when Biden makes his first speech to both legislative chambers.
“We know that members of the militias who were present on January 6 have expressed their wishes that they want to blow up the Capitol and kill as many members (of Congress) as possible, with a link to the (speech of the) State of the Union , on which we know a date has not yet been set, “Pittman said.
According to US media, Biden is expected to deliver his speech, similar to that of the State of the Union (as he has not yet completed a year in power, it will be more to explain his government plans and his achievements in his first weeks), in a joint session of Congress, after the Legislature approves a third economic bailout for the pandemic.
