The Government of Córdoba released this Thursday morning the epidemiological report linked to the Covid-19 in Córdoba and the research reveals encouraging data regarding the decrease in infections, hospitalizations and deaths from coronavirus. In addition, another great piece of information is the verification of the effectiveness of vaccines since it follows that only the 2.59 percent contracted the disease after being inoculated.
Cases, hospitalization in deaths from Covid in Córdoba
According to the report presented by the provincial Ministry of Health, in the last 15 weeks there has been a sustained decrease in the number of new cases; in the last 14, in the number of hospitalizations and in the last 13, in the number of deaths by Covid-19 in the province.
But they stressed that although a decrease in the number of new infections has been noted, it began to be perceived, in the last four weeks, a progressive increase in the percentage of cases in those under 20 years of age. It is precisely this age range that is where the percentage of vaccinated is lowest.
The report shows a decrease in the curve deaths due to Covid-19 after the province of Córdoba reached 45 percent of its population vaccinated with one dose in June and 10 percent with two doses.
Delta variant in Córdoba
On the other hand, the report also indicates the evolution of the Delta variant in Córdoba. In this framework, they assure that in the last seven days the figure was 18 cases of this variant, of which two correspond to Córdoba capital and the remaining 16 to the interior of the province. The day on which the most Delta cases were reported was last September 6, with 13 cases.
On the other hand, the report highlights that the variant most detected in Córdoba is the Gamma, with a 64.2 percent, compared to 2.2 percent for Delta and 1.5 percent for Alpha. If this trend is studied in people who returned from a trip from abroad or who are associated with outbreaks by Delta variant, a predominance of Gamma (36.7 percent) is also observed compared to Delta (19.7 percent).
“Although the proportion of Delta is much lower in relation to Gamma, it is necessary to continue the epidemiological surveillance of the community circulation of this strain and quickly control outbreaks due to the high transmissibility of this variant, with potential massive spread ”, he warned Laura Lopez, of the Epidemiology Area of the province.
Vaccination in Córdoba
Another of the most encouraging data in the report is the effectiveness and good results associated with the vaccination campaign. So far, 79.4 percent of the population over 12 years of age has been inoculated with a single dose and 59.9 percent with two doses. In relation to the population older than 18 years-old, these percentages are 87.7 and 66.7 percent, respectively.
This week the vaccination started minors between 12 and 17 years old, in this age range the coverage is 9.9 and 2.9 percent, respectively.
A relevant piece of information that emerges from this week’s epidemiological report is that of all vaccinated people, only 2.59 percent contracted Covid-19 after being vaccinated.
Of that total number of vaccinated people, Deaths were registered in 0.05% of the cases. Of that total, 0.04 percent corresponds to people who had a dose of vaccine against Covid-19 and 0.01 with two doses.
Covid infections in Córdoba
Until week 37 (which ended last Saturday at midnight) Córdoba registered 515,133 confirmed cases of coronavirus in the province, of which 1,584 cases are still active. The good news about this is that in 76 percent of cases the transmission link of the disease can be identified.
Regarding this, they highlighted that Most of the infections occurred between non-work relationships and in social gatherings.
While, infected health personnel represents 1.1 percent of the total; As for the positivity rate, it is 3.7 percent. Currently, the fatality rate is 1.34 percent, which is lower than the national average.
Use of the chinstrap and prevention in Córdoba
Based on all the data collected and the encouraging data regarding the decrease in infections, from the Epidemiology Area of the province, Laura López remarked: “We recommend sustain and promote prevention axes such as the use of personal protection measures (chinstraps, spacing, ventilation), testing, tracking and isolation, as well as to continue advancing in the vaccination campaign, in order to consolidate this decrease ”.
Finally, López emphasized other measures to take into account to sustain the downward trend in cases, hospitalizations and deaths from Covid-19 in the province of Córdoba, such as to focus prevention and surveillance strategies on the population under 18 years of age, since their immunization has recently begun; continuous supervision by local governments of compliance with current protocols, especially in high-risk places such as crowds of people. Also promote systematic testing as a common practice throughout the population, especially when returning to work and education and intensify care in social gatherings within the private sphere, since a higher proportion of infections is observed in these spaces.
